Black Water Rafting

OVERVIEW :Formed in 1987, Black Water Rafting (BWR) runs tours through Ruakuri Cave, 3km west of Waitomo Village. It has fast gained an international reputation. Participants wear wet suits (on loan) and need to bring swimming trunks and towel. You are trained in procedures prior to entering the cave stream and floating through in inflated tyre tubes. It is a magnificent experience, & superb glowworms are viewed.
LOCATION : Waitomo Caves are located 2.5 hours south of Auckland by road, 90 minutes south- west of Rotorua, and 60 minutes south of Hamilton - off State Highway #1 - 8km south of Otorohanga.

TOURS :BWR runs two tours - Black Water "Rafting" 1 (for the novice), & Black Water "Rafting" 2. Trips daily (except Christmas Day) - 9am, 10.30am, 12 noon, 1.30pm, 3pm, & 4.30pm. Less frequent in winter on weekdays. Information, bookings and tickets either at the Waitomo Museum of Caves or the Black Water Café.
