Andy Spate is a cave explorer, scientist, conservator and karst area manager. For many years he served as Karst Officer for the New South Wales National Parks & Wildlife Service. He first started caving assisting the late Joe Jennings surveying caves at Wee Jasper. He has been consulted on caves and karst matters in both Australia and New Zealand as well as several countries in Asia and in South Africa. Andy is the author or co-author of numerous scientific papers and other reports.
He is an Honorary Fellow of both the Australian Speleological Federation Inc and the Australasian Cave and Karst Management Association Inc as well as an Honorary Life Member of the latter organisation. In 2019 was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of his role in karst conservation and management.
