Yanchep Caves
LOCATION : Yanchep Caves are located 57 km north of Perth. |
OVERVIEW : The caves were first recorded by Lt. George Grey in 1838, and a caretaker was appointed in 1903. Crystal Cave was lit with electricity in 1932. Three others caves (Mambibby, Cabaret & Yonderup) were open to tourists in the past, but these are now not shown, mostly for environmental reasons. There are over four hundred known caves in the area, some containing fossils. The area is mostly natural coastal bushland. Crystal Cave is well known for the high quality of its calcite decorations. |
