Undara Lava Tubes

OVERVIEW : The Undara Lave Tubes are the largest Lava Tubes (volcanic caves) in the world. They are outstandingly beautiful, having been formed 190,000 years ago. The area famed for native wildlife (birds, bats, kangaroos, etc.) and remnant rain forests.

LOCATION : Undara Lava Lodge located in North Queensland, 40km east of Mt. Surprise, on the Gulf Development Rd, then 15km in on all-weather gravel road, 295km from Cairns.

ACCOMMODATION : On Site accommodation: Carriage suites (includes 3 meals daily); Safari Village; and camping ground. Facilities include bistro restaurant, bars, visitor's centre & tourist shop, kiosk, library, 1900m. air strip, picnic & BBQ areas.

CAVE TOURS : The lava tubes are open every day. Several tubes are inspected either by budget, half day or full day tours. The tours run in company vehicles from Lava Lodge. Budget tours are normally run four times per day. Regular package tours run from Cairns and Townsville (by both air & road) for Undara.
